The walk
The long-distance trail of Long Island, 125 miles from Rocky Point east to Montauk Point. Most people day-hike a section, and the Hither Woods segment is the classic — oak and pine forest, kettle ponds, a ridge-line view over Napeague Harbor, the Atlantic on the south side.
Access & parking
From NY-27 in Hither Hills State Park, turn into the West Overlook lot. The Paumanok Path is blazed white; the Hither Woods Loop is blazed blue and intersects.
Parking: Hither Hills West Overlook lot off NY-27, free, fits about 25 cars.
